1985
1st Bn The Royal Green Jackets
This years Shooting Team was under Lieutenant Peter Crook. Cups in this highly competitive field are only won by long hours of preparation and it is a true reflection of the team’s work that they were outright winners.

2nd Bn The Royal Green Jackets
The Battalion Shooting Team took part in the Divisional Skill at Arms Meeting in Sennelager. The results in the events were disappointing. In a very busy period this was not perhaps surprising, but the BAOR based Rifle Battalion is torn in the selection of priorities if its best shots are to be removed for a long period of training required for success. However, under the motto ’warts and all’ it must be recorded that two success stories in the Small Arms field did fall to us. First the Bugle Platoon under Bugle Major Robinson achieved second place, to another distinguished Bugle Platoon, in the GPMG (SF) competition in BAOR and went on to receive third honours at the Army Meeting in Warminster in June. Secondly, the Subalterns themselves took second place in the Divisional Young Officers Skill at Arms Meeting.
L/Cpl McKenzie became the Battalion Champion Pistol Shot.

Captain Don Breckenridge and Lieutenant James D’Arcy and Dick Hudson had been training hard for Bisley with the Battalion Shooting Team. The aim was to win, and certainly to improve upon last year’s performance. We can record that, having been judged on the day as third overall out of the TA Major Units, we were later deemed to have come second. Amongst the prizes carried off :-
